BioAmber Inc. Bio-SA™ Earns High Score in Environmental Leader Technology Reviews

Bio-SA™ earned an impressive 4.5 Stars (out of a possible five), and is considered by judges as an exemplary product.

One judge said of Bio-SA™: "Many companies want to reduce the carbon footprint of their products and packaging and this may be an innovative way of doing it." Another added, "This has potential to make major impact environmentally."

The Environmental Leader Technology Reviews is a program recognizing excellence in products and services that provide companies with energy and environmental benefits. Scores were determined by a panel of independent judges from companies including PepsiCo, Staples, the University of California Berkeley, ISS Facilities Services, The Green Grid, LNS Research, Owens Corning, Yahoo! Inc., GlaxoSmithKline, Legrand, Petco, and New Belgium Brewing Company.

The Environmental Leader Technology Reviews program gives companies a solid base of products, vetted by experts, from which to choose.

Succinic Acid has emerged as one of the most competitive of the new bio-based chemicals. As a platform chemical, bio based succinic acid has a wide range of applications, including in polyurethanes, coatings, adhesives, sealants, food, flavor, resins and personal care. It also serves as a building block for large volume chemical intermediates such as 1,4-butanediol.

Until recently, the common industrial scale production method of succinic acid was petroleum derived. A key advantage of bio based succinic acid is the differentiated performance that it enables, in addition to its positive environmental profile, compared to petroleum based succinic acid. BioAmber Inc. has developed a proprietary process to produce carbon neutral bio-succinic acid from renewable feedstocks with a 99.4% Greenhouse Gas Savings and a 56.3% energy savings compared to petroleum succinic acid, as confirmed in an independent Life Cycle Analysis conducted by Riffel Consulting, LLC.
